Las Vegas City Guide

Las Vegas is a city which many people go to expecting just to find casinos and gambling, and of course there are plenty to be found here on the Las Vegas strip. However, many of them have a lot to offer that doesn’t involve gambling at all. There are dancing girls (and boys) to watch in evening shows, musicals, and magic shows where you can guess where they hid that white dove. You can enjoy the latest broadway style show, or get a bit of an eyeful watching the Sin City Bad Girls, or the Chipendales perform. Vegas is a really nice place if you are looking for a nice play to stay in The United States.

What to do when in Vegas?

There are other sights to see as well if you step away from the tables, at the Mirage, there’s an artificial volcano that ‘erupts’ on the hour between 5 and 11pm. Don’t worry about what it smells like though, as the smoke that comes out is specially scented with pina colada flavouring! Over at the Bellagio, there are some rather wonderful fountains outside its doors. Through out the evening, they have several shows of lights, music and water which are quite spectacular to watch, and were designed to attract people and draw them over to the hotel and casino.

Take a look up into the skys, or better yet, take a trip up there, and look out over Las Vegas from the viewing platforms on the tallest free standing observation tower in America. Stratosphere Towers is a regular casino and hotel at its base, but high up on its top, there’s some real excitement to be had. As well as the observation tower, there’s a revolving restaurant called ‘Top of the world’ where you can enjoy dinner and slowly revolving views across the city, mountains and deserts. There are several thrilling rides up here as well. There’s Big Shot which is a reverse bungee jump shooting you 160 feet up into the air at 45 miles per hour. Insanity which dangles you over the edge of the tower and then spins in a circle with the world revolving giddily below you, and then Sky jump, which is a controlled descent bungee jump style ride. It lets you plummet 855 feet downwards attached to a high speed descent wire, before you come safely to land once more.

It is not just the casinos

Away from the casinos there is plenty more to see and do. The Las Vegas space flights give people the chance to experience some of the feelings of being in outer space. It’s quite an expensive thing to do, but it’s worth it, to go up in a Boeing 727 which then performs a series of moves that give you the chance to experience true weightlessness even if it’s only for a few moments at a time.

Tip: visit Madame Tussauds
Madame Tussauds nearby has waxworks of many famous people for you to see, and the Shark Reef Aquarium has more than 100 different species of animal including 15 types of shark, green sea turtles, piranha, moon jellies and golden crocodiles. Out into the desert and the El Dorado Canyon Mine tour is just an hour away. You can see a real gold mine, and learn about the history of mining in the area.
